Captain Robert F. Jones, USN

CAPT Robert Francis Jones was born on November 26, 1908, in Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with the class of 1931. CAPT Jones was a pioneer in the development of unmanned remotely-controlled aircraft called "assault drones" for use in combat.

CAPT Jones served as Commanding Officer of the USS Salisbury Sound (AV-13) from June 15, 1953, to April 8, 1954. He retired from the U.S. Navy in April, 1955.

Interment and graveside service with full military honors was held at Arlington National Cemetery on May 20, 1998, for Captain Robert Francis Jones, U. S. Navy (Retired), Class of 1931 U.S. Naval Academy.

Captain Jones died April 27, 1998, in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
